Ray Merlo
CEO
After working in the family concrete business as a teenager, Ray began his studies at Lawrence Institute of Technology (today Lawrence Technological University) where he earned a degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation, Ray began a career in the industrial painting industry working for a large national painting contractor. His work in the painting industry gained him an immeasurable amount of experience as he worked throughout the United States.
In 1991, Ray decided that he had enough of the industrial painting business and decided to return to his roots in the concrete business by partnering with his brother, Perry, and founding Merlo Construction Company, Inc. With Ray's unparalleled passion, he and Perry were able to transform Merlo from a small commercial concrete contractor to a leader in the southeastern Michigan earthwork and concrete markets.
Ray has served as Vice President and CEO of Merlo Construction where he provides vision and direction to the company. As a remarkable visionary, Ray is a forward thinker with great enthusiasm for the growth and development of Merlo. Ray also manages the sales and estimating team where his experience and attentiveness to customer's needs has created a stable of lifelong clients.Ray is involved with many industry associations. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC) and is heavily involved in the Michigan Concrete Association (MCA). Ray believes in volunteering his time – most notably, he and his wife have been instrumental in establishing the Children’s Comfort Fund at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan. Ray currently lives in the Northville area with his family.

Perry Merlo
President
Upon graduation from high school, Perry knew how he was going to make his mark in the world. With two previous generations of concrete contractors in the family, it only seemed natural for him to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather and father. Perry partnered with his father, Reno, and began working on small commercial concrete projects. Working in a small family owned company, Perry soon realized that he would have to wear many hats and become a master of juggling all facets of the business in order to become successful. By troweling concrete during the day and estimating new projects during the night, Perry and Reno were able to sustain and grow the business.
When Reno decided to hang up his trowel and ease into retirement, Ray became the logical choice for Perry to partner with and Merlo Construction Company, Inc. was established in 1991. With Ray and four other employees in the mix, Merlo Construction was ready for growth. As the company has grown, Perry has remained President and continues to focus his efforts on field operations and asset management. He leads by example and, even as President, is not apprehensive about picking up a shovel or trowel and showing the troops how it’s done.
Perry has held numerous positions in the Southeast Michigan chapter of the Associated Building Contractors (ABC) including Treasurer and Chairman. He currently serves on the national board of the organization. Perry resides in the Northville area with his wife and two daughters. When not at work, Perry’s hobbies include hunting, deer management and riding his ATV’s.
